What are Astrology Signs?
This line best summarizes an astrologer’s outlook on the world. The Greeks took up where they left off, naming the planets after their gods and goddesses, and used their traits to describe the qualities of the individuals who are ruled by these planets. Ancient Hebrew Astrology teaches that each planet is ruled by an angel who makes the planet move in its orbit by singing his specific Song of Praise to the Creator. Thus each planet and its ruling angel has a unique trait which is described by its respective song. The ancient Greeks idol worshiped these angels and deemed them as gods and goddesses, like the idolaters at the time of Enoch. The ancient Greek astrologers are widely considered as the fathers of modern Western astrology, because this was the advent of the astrology signs in the West. The great mathematician and astronomer Ptolemy even wrote his own astrological bible, called the Tetrabiblios, approaching astrology from a rational angle. Romans, on the other hand, used astrology to determine the fate of their newborns, as well as to give them ideas on who their prospective mates and enemies were. Ceremonies were determined largely by astrology signs. Eventually, astrology was also used in the field of medicine, particularly in the West, with the bodily functions and body parts seen as directly affected by the astrology signs. These origins, put together, created modern astrology, where the art of astronomy was combined with a mystical view of how the world works.
Modern day astrology is highly dependent on astrology signs. Astrologers classify people according to the sign that they fall under, with their character traits and their fate determined by the movements of these heavenly bodies. Astrologers draw up charts based on these signs and then make subsequent interpretations on their meanings, which are usually specific for persons who consult with them. A person’s birth date also plays a huge role in astrology, determining his or her personality type, relationships, career, and such.
